There has been a church and churchyard on this site since Saxon Times. Now, the churchyard is looked after by the EcoChurch Team, together with CS (Community Service) teams, the War Grave Commission, and volunteers, who mow and strim the grass, trim the hedges, and keep the graves neat and tidy. St. Stephen's Churchyard is a haven for wildlife, so some areas are left un-mown, to provide habitat for the many species the churchyard caters for.
