Position of Caretaker for Acomb Parish Church Hall Closing date for applications for the above role: 31st March, 2020. Location: Acomb Parish Church Hall, Front Street, Acomb, York. YO24 3BZ
Hours of Work: 10 per week
Pay: Current living wage level - £9.30 per hour. Acomb Parish Church Hall provides a service to the church and local community. The hall is part of Acomb Parish Churches, in the Diocese of York and is part of the Church of England. The building comprises a main hall with stage area, kitchen, 2 smaller meeting rooms, parish office and toilet facilities within a reception area.
This is a great opportunity for somebody with strong practical skills and a passion for the community.
Purpose of Role: Making the hall ready for client use by:-
Overseeing the security of the building, including locking/unlocking for some of the hall user groups on an ad-hoc basis. It would therefore be advantageous if the post holder lived locally.
Maintaining a clean and safe environment and providing a good service for those using the building. This would involve regular cleaning and preparation of the hall/rooms and occasional maintenance.
The 10 hours per week would be worked on a mutually agreed, flexible basis (no set working pattern and the post holder must be able to meet the needs of the parish hall complex). Those who apply must demonstrate reasonable levels of fitness, be practical, be able to use their own initiative and support the values of Acomb Parish.
You should have general handy-person skills. You should also have good people skills and a real desire to support our mission through serving the needs of the people who use the building.
Basic literacy and numeracy skills. Self- motivated, well organised and with an ability to prioritise. Good people skills, a courteous manner and a welcoming, flexible approach. An ability to solve problems and deal with difficult situations if they arise. Ability to carry out duties without supervision. Working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety and a good understanding of cleaning methods and materials. Empathy with the Christian Faith and the ability to work effectively within a Church of England context.
