St Aidan's Church on Ridgeway, was consecrated by the Archbishop of York on 27th May 1965.
In 1959 St Stephen's PCC considered how they might provide this daughter Church to serve the south side of the Parish for which they purchased the site. Towards the end of 1960 a stewardship campaign was set up to fund this. Previously, in the 1930's, it is understood that both the Church of Holy Redeemer on Boroughbridge Road and the in 1950's the Church of St James the Deacon in Woodthorpe had emerged on the boundaries of Acomb Parish.
Sunday 17th May 2015 saw a celebration of 50 years of St Aidan's in a special day and service for the wider community attended by Archbishop Sentamu.
