Grow Groups
We run a number of small groups through the week to help people grow in their Christian faith, have fun and socialise together. To find out more email us at [email protected]
Squeals on Wheels Toddler Group
We are a friendly and supportive group for babies, toddlers and their parents or carers. We meet in our modern, spacious church hall (Front Street, Acomb, YO24 3BZ) every Tuesday during term time from 9am to 11am. We have great toys and play equipment and provide delicious drinks and snacks. There is a craft activity and story time each week. To book a place or for more information contact Jen Deamer on 07443582072 or email [email protected]
Craft & Coffee
Our craft and coffee mornings are held on the third Saturday of every month (except August and December) from 10.30am to 12.30pm in Acomb Parish Hall, Front Street. There are a variety of craft stalls, some of whom raise money for local charities. We also serve coffee, tea, soft drinks and homemade cakes. Proceeds from the refreshments go towards supporting our youth work in the Acomb community. If you would like to book a stall or get involved, please contact Jennifer Deamer on 01904 330569 or [email protected]
People and Planet Group
We are a passionate team dedicated to promoting a message of sustainability and fairness. St Stephen’s is currently working towards an EcoChurch Award, set up by the charity A Rocha, to help churches express their care for God’s creation. We work to boost the biodiversity of our beautiful, natural churchyard, and encourage eco-friendly practices within our church community and beyond. We are a Fairtrade Church, supporting producers around the world to earn secure and sustainable livelihoods. Working with other local churches, we offer workshops, conferences, and eco-fairs to share tips on reducing carbon footprints, conserving energy, and making eco-friendly choices in everyday life.
Music at St Stephen’s
Worship music is an important part of life at St Stephen’s. We have a dedicated team of musicians, singers and worship leaders to help draw us closer to God at our various services and special events. You will find a mix of contemporary band-led worship songs and traditional organ-led hymns. We’d love to get more people involved. For more information please email us at [email protected]
Friends of St Stephen’s Churchyard
We are a small group of local volunteers from both the church and the wider community of Acomb, working together to care for the beautiful and sacred grounds of St Stephen's Churchyard in Acomb. We have three main aims:
- To maintain the churchyard, its access paths and regularly visited graves;
- To create spaces for wildlife to flourish and nature trails for everyone to enjoy;
- To foster good lines of communication with all those who use the space.
If you would like to help out, please let us know at [email protected]
Men’s Socials
We organise regular meetups in pubs and cafes for blokes to chew the fat and support each other. New people are always welcome. To get involved, please email us at [email protected]
Mothers’ Union
The Mothers’ Union is an international Christian organisation which promotes the well-being of families by:
- Developing prayer and spiritual growth in families.
- Studying and reflecting on the place of family life and marriage within society.
- Resourcing our members to take practical action to improve conditions for families, both nationally and in the communities in which they live.
We support the work of the Mothers’ Union with an Acomb Branch Holy Communion service on the first Thursday of each month at 10am in the Parish Hall.
Acomb Scouts
We have a great relationship with our local Scouts, 2nd Acomb St Stephen’s Scout Group. They run their fantastic groups and sessions in our grounds next to the church hall and we enjoy services and events together at important points in the year. For more information about the group email Becky at [email protected]
