Welcomers – Chief responsibilities

Thank you for volunteering to help in this important work. To aid the smooth-running of the service and to help folks worship freely you are asked to share the following tasks:

Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the start of the service

If you are unable to welcome on the date you have been allocated, please arrange a swap with someone and let Tony Tew know who is replacing you (Tel. 791741).

Check Service Order for any special events that may need arranging.

Prepare books and papers to be distributed.

Allocate one person to welcome the congregation as they enter the Church.

Give a special welcome to newcomers; ensure their needs are met in terms of seating and comfort, possibly arranging for them to sit next to an appropriate regular church member.

Allocate one person to hand out books and News from the Pews, etc.

Arrange for the offering to be collected.

Arrange an orderly approach to the communion rail for Eucharist.

Allocate one person to attend at the back of the church to welcome latecomers and deal with problems arising during the service.

Count the number of people in the congregation, dividing between over and under 16 years.

Attend at the door as the children leave for their group sessions.

Attend to the congregation as they leave, especially any newcomers and if appropriate hand them a Welcome Pack.

Check the pews: collect up any property left behind, collect papers and books for return to the book case, straighten books permanently kept in the pews, lift kneelers onto seats.
